Adopting an Animal at CMHS
CMHS is devoted to putting pets with people. Please keep in mind that our goal is to create forever matches with members of our community; owning an animal is a lifelong commitment! Deciding on an animal to bring into your home is a process that we nurture from your first click on our website to walking out the door with you new best friend!
When you adopt from CMHS, your new furry family member will be fixed, up to date on their shots, microchipped and you'll get a free bag of pet food and a complimentary visit to a local veterinarian!
Updates to the adoption process
-
If you are interested in meeting a CMHS animal, your first step will be to submit our quick adoption interest survey! If you are having trouble submitting your survey, such as it recognizes the phone number but will not let you continue, it is most likely because you are already in our system without an email address or with a different email address. To fix this issue to be able to submit your survey, please email [email protected] so that your new information so that can be updated.
-
Appointments are preferred in order to meet an animal at the shelter, but we do accommodate walk-in visits when time allows. Our animal housing areas are not open for public walkthrough - you will be escorted by a staff member. We do this to minimize stress levels in our kennels and keep disease spread to a minimum. Keep in mind that most of our cats and small animals are in foster care.
-
CMHS utilizes a contact-free, mobile checkout! At the time of adoption, you will receive a text prompting you to check out via your cell phone - once staff has received your payment and the signed adoption contract, all paperwork will be emailed to you. This includes your adoption contract, your adoption receipt, your new animal's medical history, as well as our adoption packet which includes coupons to Petsmart and Lizzi & Rocco's and a certificate for a free physical examination which you will have 14 days after adoption to call any of the participating veterinarians to schedule your appointment.

Dogs and cats adopted from CMHS are eligible for pet insurance.
Pets in Foster Care
If you want to meet a pet in foster care, the first step is to submit an adoption interest survey. Once approved, our foster coordinator will set up a meet-and-greet on a first come, first served basis.Adoption Fees
You can't put a price tag on love, but there are costs involved in caring for a healthy pet. CMHS adoption fees cover spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, and heartworm testing for dogs. In addition when you adopt from CMHS you will receive a free bag of pet food and a complimentary visit to a local veterinarian!
